New information from the Alachua School Board

Runners and parents,

As of tonight, we have a couple of new requirements from SBAC.

1. Any new runners must have an EL3 (consent) form on file. If you have not given one to coach Maren, please fill out and give to him. Returning runners do not need a new one.

2. Also new is each runner must have a physical¬† (EL2). Please get this when you can, but don’t stop coming. If it takes a week or two it is okay.

2. Returning runners are good with their physicals for one year. I have attached the names and dates for those who had physicals and when they expire.

I’m sorry for the confusion, things seem to change day to day anymore.

Buchholz track awards

Runners and parents,

Because it is unlikely that we will be able to meet as a group this summer, the coaches have decided to go ahead and announce the winners and give out the Buchholz Track awards now. Attached is the list of athletes that the coaches are proud to announce. We chose four categories for each of the three areas of events: Most Valuable, Most improved, Captains award and Coaches awards for Distance, Sprints, and Field. (24 total). We also wanted to recognize the 14 seniors that unfortunately did not get to finish off their careers at Buchholz. As far as letter awards, we will deal with those later in the summer or when school resumes.

We will be at the Buchholz parking lot on Wednesday, May 20th, from 5:00pm to 6:00 to hand out the awards. Please come by the bus drop off and we will hand you the award.

The coaches are proud of every athlete irrespective of awards and again congratulate both boys and girls for being Alachua County Champions!

Sincerely,
Coaches Maren, Sheppard, Rope, Doherty, Peoples and Lehning

BDRC 2020 Announcement

Runners,

It’s unfortunate but not a surprise that the Brevard distance camp has been canceled, I’m sorry. The coaches will look into other ways we might be able to get together as a team later on in the summer. Also, our summer running program that we have every summer at UF WILL TAKE PLACE. When this happens depends on restrictions placed on us by the county. WE WILL BE IN TOUCH. Meanwhile, we hope everyone is running on their own.

Coaches update

Runners and parents,

Coach Maren and I wanted to touch base with everyone and encourage everyone to continue to be discipline in running on their own in this difficult time. I am hearing good things about some of you doing real well, some running on their own and some running in small groups. We have to all look at the big picture and ahead for the xc season.

I am in regular touch with the administration and as of today nothing has changed as far as being able to get together as a team, coming from the Alachua school district and the FHSAA. We are hoping that areas will slowly open up with guidelines. (I was told that San Felasco has opened up.)

I just talked to the Brevard Distance camp and they are now taking REGISTRATIONS WITHOUT DEPOSITS. They are also still using June 1st as their deadline to hear from the North Carolina Parks Dept.as to whether in can be held. The Buchholz coaches want to go as a team the last week in July. So far 199 runners have registered for that week. They are setting a new limit of 250 this year as opposed to the normal 450. So please, if you want to go contact them now. There is no risk or penalty if things don’t work out. (I’m trying to think positive:-)

We would love to hear from you as to how you are doing, so don’t be afraid to stay in touch. We both miss working with all of you VERY MUCH. This has been the hardest thing to deal with during this crazy time.

Sincerely,

Coaches Maren and Lehning
