BDRC 2020 Announcement

It’s unfortunate but not a surprise that the Brevard distance camp has been canceled, I’m sorry. The coaches will look into other ways we might be able to get together as a team later on in the summer. Also, our summer running program that we have every summer at UF WILL TAKE PLACE. When this happens depends on restrictions placed on us by the county. WE WILL BE IN TOUCH. Meanwhile, we hope everyone is running on their own.

Coaches update

Runners and parents,

Coach Maren and I wanted to touch base with everyone and encourage everyone to continue to be discipline in running on their own in this difficult time. I am hearing good things about some of you doing real well, some running on their own and some running in small groups. We have to all look at the big picture and ahead for the xc season.

I am in regular touch with the administration and as of today nothing has changed as far as being able to get together as a team, coming from the Alachua school district and the FHSAA. We are hoping that areas will slowly open up with guidelines. (I was told that San Felasco has opened up.)

I just talked to the Brevard Distance camp and they are now taking REGISTRATIONS WITHOUT DEPOSITS. They are also still using June 1st as their deadline to hear from the North Carolina Parks to whether in can be held. The Buchholz coaches want to go as a team the last week in July. So far 199 runners have registered for that week. They are setting a new limit of 250 this year as opposed to the normal 450. So please, if you want to go contact them now. There is no risk or penalty if things don’t work out. (I’m trying to think positive:-)

We would love to hear from you as to how you are doing, so don’t be afraid to stay in touch. We both miss working with all of you VERY MUCH. This has been the hardest thing to deal with during this crazy time.

FHSAA cancels remainder of 2020 season.

Athletes and parents,

As was expected the season has been canceled by the FHSAA and the coaches don’t plan on attending any post season meets as a team. Everyone is welcome to compete in any post season meets as an individual if they wish, such as AAU later in the summer.

The coaches are working on awards and plan to give them out when it is allowable later on. We will keep you informed. We will also let you know about the summer distance running program and the Brevard Distance Camp.

As always, if you have any questions, let us know.

Update on the Brevard Distance Summer Camp

Athletes and parents,

We just spoke to the Brevard camp director and they are still planning on having camp only if the forestry department can open the parks, which are closed until further notice. They also said they will DECIDE ONE WAY OR ANOTHER BY JUNE 1st and that ANY DEPOSITS PREPAID WILL BE REFUNDED IF THEY ARE UNABLE TO OPEN! The coaches are hoping this will still happen as it will be a welcome change and a step in the right direction toward getting back to normal and preparing for the upcoming season.

I hope this helps with any uncertainty anyone may have. We will update all of you when we hear more.

For all the new runners/parents who don’t know about the camp go to: to learn more. It is totally voluntary and not a requirement to be on the cross-country team. If you have any questions or concerns, please email us.

Athletes and parents,

We are obviously still in a holding pattern and waiting it out until we get word from the school board and the FHSAA as to what the future holds with school and sports. Meanwhile the athletic director has asked me to let you know registration forms will be sent out next week for class sign up. Next year they are offering class(es) for athletes who want an elective to be able to train, especially for females since it has been primarily for boys/football in the past. They must have between 20-30 students signing up to make this class.
I also wanted to let you know that we will eventually have some sort of banquet/cookout/awards day for the track team when we know more.

Meanwhile, the coaches hope that everyone is staying healthy both physically and mentally in this tough time. We are all disappointed that the season was interrupted this way, especially for our seniors. We however, are grateful that we were able to end on a high note by winning both of the Alachua County Track Championships (see for results and pictures).
